Bamboo Yarn

I have been thinking about trying some bamboo yarn. It feels so soft and light. What has been your experience with it? Is it easy to care for? How does it hold up?

Hi Jamie,

We had quite a long blog on bamboo yarns, maybe one of the mods knows how to find it.

The general opinion, the last time I checked was that they are nice to work, as long as you know that not all of them have the elasticity to work for socks. I’ve made socks with it, and like them. They are nice for summer weather in particular, living here in Oregon.

I have never tried bamboo yarn either, but it does look lovely.
I looked it up, hope this helps.

Bamboo yarns, like any other fiber, is all over the place in both quality and type, etc. It’s just like some wool is very, very soft, some is scratchy, some is thick, some is thin. . .so I would try 1 skein of different brands and see what you like and what you don’t.

Thanks everyone!
I was looking at some bamboo yarns today, and all that I saw was very soft. One was especially shiny and was in the baby yarn section. I wish I remember the brands I was looking at.

I love bamboo! So far I’ve only used a bulky kind, Bernat Naturals Bamboo, but it’s great to work with and incredibly soft. I want to try some lighter weight stuff for a summer top, I think it would be really light.

I love Bamboo yarn. this is the yarn I used to make my lotus blossom tank in the whatcha knitting section. you can also see a pic of it on my ravelry page.

the ebay seller is very reliable and the yarn is just wonderful. I also used the yarn to make baby items. so far it has been wonderful. I have only handwashed the items but I tend to handwash all my knitted items.

Have not used the yarn but just wanted to add that the bamboo needles from the site mentioned by Scout52 are great.
