I am knitting a cardigan from a Jaeger pattern (my first project for many years) but cannot make any sense of the instructions for the border with the buttonholes. I’d be very grateful for any help.
I’ve picked up stitches along the front opening edge, from cast on edge to neck shaping, worked a couple of rows in stocking stitch and then have done a row which is pretty much p2 (cast off 2 stitches p17) to the end.
The instructions then say: "Work three rows more in patt, casting on 2sts over gaps formed by cast off sts in last row."
How can I work three rows without casting on over the gaps until the last row? It is a chunky cardigan with largish buttons so I suppose the buttonholes need to be quite big.
You’re misreading that - work 3 more rows in pattern and when you get to the gap from the cast off sts on the next row, cast on 2 sts. You wouldn’t cast on sts on every row, just the following one.
