Back hand stitches

Hello fellow knitters,

I am working on a pair of pop-up mittens and the pattern calls for Back Hand Sts. I have searched for a definition/explanation, but I can’t locate one. My initial thought was knitting in the back loop. Can someone please explain?

Thank you,
mspenny

Probably the sts for the back of the hand. If you have a link to the pattern, or can post just a couple rows that mention them, that would be helpful.

I think you may be right, Sue (boy, I sure feel dumb!). Here is a portion of the pattern:

2nd Round: Work even on 34-38-42-46 sts.
3rd Round: Knit 1 st, Knit/Inc in next st, Knit 15-17-19-21 Back Hand Sts, Place 1st thumb marker, Knit/Inc in next st, Knit 1 st, Knit/Inc in next st, Place 2nd thumb mark, Knit 12-14-16-18 Palm Sts, Knit/Inc in next st, end Knit last st.

Thank you for making the obvious obvious!
Have a wonderful evening,
penny

Yeah, that’s just information identifying those sts as the back of hand ones.

I am doing the exact same pattern and as I am a novice knitter I didn’t get the reference either. Thanks for the original post and the answer!
