Back and shoulder

So I’ve knitted the back and done half of the shape neck but now I’m confused. Starting with 69 stitches then knitting the 26 and turning for the neck shaping leaves me 43 stitches.so I’m not sure where I go next or if I’ve gone wrong.

Hello
I’m not sure how much of the shape neck you’ve done.
The overall stitch count is 26 for one side up to the shoulder, 17 for the neck edge, 26 for the other side up to the shoulder. Total 69.

Work the first side with the 26 sts and follow the shaping decreases just on these stitches. Leave the other stitches for now, you can leave them on the needle or slip them all to a separate holder if you want.

After finishing the first shoulder you will slip 17 sts (centre of the sweater for the neck hole) onto a holder and there will be 26 remaining. You work these 26 the same way you worked the first set.

Does this help or still unsure?

It’s the shape shoulders that I don’t get as it’s different from the front so I’ve done the front no problem. so it says work as given for front to shape neck then continue in st st until armholes measure the same.as front shoulder but then I gives shape shoulders so I’m confused.IMG_20240714_115513304|1200x675

It’s just clicked

Oh sorry. You did say “back” but I kind of missed that with you saying 69 sts and work 26 etc.
Sorry for missing what the question really was.
Really good you’ve figured it out though.
Enjoy the rest of your project.
