Baby Sweater

So I am just about done the sweater I am making, (except the sleeves). Anyway, It says to pick up two stitches under the arm to close up the hole. It is a big hole, so is it okay to pick up like 6 stitches instead?

I routinely to that. On the next round you can knit together the two end picked up sts with the sleeve sts that are next to them. Then you can work additional decreases down the sleeve as you wish.

I had the same problem with a baby sweater knit all in one ( 7 hr baby sweater). I finally, when completed, ran yarn around the area in a circle then pulled it gently and cinched hole closed and weaved in ends. Worked perfectly. Used same technique on a small hole in a sock.
