Baby Sweater Trouble

I am beginner. Finished an adorable sweater for my baby only to find that I have to struggle to fit it over her extra large head. Once it’s on, it fits fine. The neck was cast off very loosely and then stitches picked up to finish with K2P2 rib. Any creative ways to loosen the neck without a lot of fuss? And for future reference, what would be the easiest way to adjust a pattern to accommidate her large head size? Thanks in advance for your answers. Tina

I’m not sure about fixing this one (beginner-type knitter) but all the over-the-head sweaters made for my girl when she was a baby had buttons at the shoulder. the neck was slit from neck to shoulder edge on one or both sides, finished like a cardigan (button row and button hole row). Then it was easy to get over her head. Whish I could be more help…

There was a recent thread about re-doing the bind off for an adult sweater where the neck was too tight… I’ll go look.

This happenend to me before and I had to remove the ribbing on the neck and add a crocheted edge or you could take off the ribbing and pick up a few extra stitches around the neckline and bind off with a larger needle.
