Baby sweater neck shaping help

I’m making a baby sweater but can’t remember how to do the neck shaping…it’s been years since I made one. The pattern says to use short rows. Work to last 6 sts of end, turn, sl1, work to within 6 sts on other end, turn, sl1, work to within 12 sts on other end, turn, sl1, work to within last 12 sts of other end. Then it says: “continue in this manner until Rib Stitch band is complete knitting to end of row.” The rib pattern is 8 rows so, do I do 6, 12, 18, 24 or 6 doubled is 12 then 12 double is 24? I think the 6, 12, 18 etc but I’m completely lost. I’m making a sweater to test out and make notes on the patter so this doesn’t happen again! Years ago I had the help of the person that gave me the pattern. Thank you

That’s such a sweet pattern. Really pretty stitch pattern too.
You’ve got it, each set of turns is 6sts short of the last turn or 6,12,18,24sts from each end.

Thank you so much! I’ve made several of these sweaters but the last was 10 years ago. However, I had help from the lady that gave me the pattern. I need to take out the last pattern row, not happy but I want this correct. For some reason I hit 8 rows with the last turns at 18 stitches. Thought I kept track, obviously I did not. Lol With the rib pattern, it’s stretchy, the sweater fits baby longer than a minute. THANK YOU again!

I really like that little sweater. Do you have any more details about the pattern to help me find a copy - if not the pattern name and number, perhaps the yarn specified?

Here’s the cover, it’s very old. I’m not sure of the rules in this forum but I’d be happy to snap a photo of the pattern for you if you can’t find it.

We can’t post large portions of patterns on the forum due to designer copyright but the cover information is a help in tracking down the book. Thanks!

Thank you. Got it!

Thank you. Got all I needed from the eBay photos!

I’m happy you found it.
