Baby size bolero or shrug?

I picked up some of the $1.00 yarn from Big Lots, kind of a chunky boucle-ish, 3 skeins of white and 3 of pink. Gauge says 24 st per 10 cm (4 inches) on 4.5 mm (size 7), but I have hard time believing that, looks like it will be more like 4 per inch.

Actually, it’s this stuff, 3 skeins of Ballerina and 3 of White Frosting

Anyway, I only have 264 yards, most likely not enough for a regular cardigan or pullover, but thought about an infant sized bolero or shrug, size 12 months give or take.

Anyone ever even seen such a pattern? Either free or in a book I could get from the library?

How about this?

Oh that’s cute! Where is the pattern from? Do you recall how much yarn it took?

I have used the frosting yarn. It knit out great with a 10 needle.

One way to do a simple shrug is to knit a rectangle. The rectangle will be as long as your out stretched arms (of those of a tot) and as wide as you want your sleeve X 2.

Take your rectangle and fold it width/wise for about 1/4 or so the length of the rectangle and seam. Do both ends. It looks a bit like a canoe.

Another thing I thought I could do is just a regular crew neck type cardigan pattern and just make it a crop style too.

I like your shrug idea too quirky. I have some Frosting but this isn’t quite like it, not as “furry,” but the picture from the site makes it look like it for some reason.

Can a person start knitting circular, then go flat and then go back circular again? As in sleeve, back, sleeve?

I don’t see why not. I’m doing that for a shrug right now and it hasn’t imploded or anything. Tubey is knit that way, as well. Well, sort of.

:happydance: Found one!

Actually in a book I brought home from the library today!
