I just finished my first stockinette stitch baby hat and got so excited I wanted to try an interesting new stitch, I thought moss ribbing looked nice in the book I have and started making, what I hoped would be, another baby hat… Well, now I’m at the point where I need to decrease and I just can’t figure it out - is there a way to do this?! Here’s a bit more information - I’m just using regular needles (no round ones). The moss ribbing is (just in case there’s another name for it):
1st row K2, [p1, k3] to last 3 sts, p1, k2
2nd row P1, [k3, p1] to end
What have I gotten myself in to?!
Thanks for any replys!
I don’t think there’s a set way to decrease and keep the ribbing in pattern. You could try only decreasing in the k3 sections. Then on the next decreases work the remaining 2 ks together, and then play it by ear–as long as you’re consistent, it’ll look ok.
Ingrid - thank you so much! with your advice I was able to make it work, and somehow it looks OK, I was ready to tear the whole thing up, now I have a great looking baby hat, and everyone is so impressed! thanks!
I think we need a picture! Post it under Whatcha Knittin’ forum if you can!
