Baby Cap -Decrease Question

Hi! I am at the point in this pattern when I need to start decreasing, but I don’t understand the instructions for decreasing–see below. Do I just leave out the M1 stitches and do everything else the same. If I leave out the M1, do I replace it with a k1 stitch? Thanks for any input!

On the next round, increase and decrease as follows:

k1, M1, k18 (18) 19, slip 1 – knit 2 tog tbl – * psso, k 18 (19) 20, M1, k1, M1
k 18 (19) 20, slip 1 – knit 2 tog tbl – psso, k 18 (19) 20, M1, k1, M1, k 18
(19) 20, slip 1 – knit 2 tog tbl – psso, k 18 (18) 19, M1, k1

Repeat these increases and decreases every other round for 8 (9) 10 more rounds. Then do only the decreases every other round until there are 7 (11) 11 stitches left. Then k2tog until only one stitch is left, break yarn and thread through remaining stitches.

Right, just leave out the M1s and only do the dec sts.

If I leave out the M1, do I replace it with a k1 stitch?
Yes, all the M1’s become knits.

Actually, there won’t be any M1s to knit. That would be the inc made by lifting the strand, so it’s not there. If laineysq is doing kfb instead, the incs may be in the wrong spot. So she just skips it.
