Baby Boy's Gansey

I want to make a gansey for my husband that I design myself so I made this to refresh my mind on ganseys. I used guidance from Knitting Ganseys by Beth Brown-Reinsel (which I love), but didn’t chart things out as much as she suggests. I don’t plan to on DH’s gansey either so I want to make sure I can do it.

The yarn is a fine 100% wool I got at a second hand store for 69 cents a skein. It took 3 for this.

That’s adorable!! Great job on it! :yay:

Great job … beautiful design! :yay:

Very nice work! I really like how this yarn color shows all the different patterns so clearly.

Beautiful! Good luck on the big sweater.

Well done!

It looks like you even did underarm gussets. BRAVO!

What size needles did you use with that fine wool?

Yes, it has underarm gussets and shoulder straps to join fronts and backs. I used a US#3 needle. I had 75 or so stitches across each side. Used a #2 for the ribbing.

Here is picture of the gusset. DH was taking pictures for me and didn’t get one of the shoulder strap because the camera gave out.

That’s so cute! good luck with the big one!

Beautiful work!

Beautifully done!
Depending on size, with worsted yarn and size 8 needles you might have the same number of stitches for your hubby.

This occurred to me too. But they usually made ganseys with a pretty tight gauge and I’m using some yarn that is going to need a #4 needle and just over 200 stitches.

That’s 200 sts for the front, and 200 sts for the back.

:noway: Oh good grief!
It took me three months to do the castle sweater on size 4 needles.:passedout:

That’s 200 sts for the front, and 200 sts for the back.

No, thank goodness. 200 altogether.

PHEW!!!
But that’s still a whole lot of stitches!!!:thud:

Your knitting is always so inspirational, Judy! This is a beautiful gansey! How WONDERFUL to score those 3 skeins of beautiful yarn for 69¢ each!!! I would positively die to find such a good bargain!
Looking forward to seeing the gansey you design and knit for Tom!!!

Absolutely amazing!! What an undertaking! It was well worth the effort I’d say!

That is a gorgeous sweater!!! And for barely two bucks, ya gotta love it! ( I love great thrift store finds!) .

You really do beautiful work!
