Baby blanket

Hi all. I’m looking to make my DD a blanket to sleep under while she naps. I’m interested in wool, no synthetics. However, I don’t want it to take so long that the kid is being led to chuppah (the wedding canopy) before I’m done, so I was thinking of a bulky yarn.

What do y’all think of Lamb’s Pride Bulky? I’m tend to love hand painted merinos (can we say SNOB! :roflhard: ), but I want to do something in a very classic yarn.

Any thoughts? (Like I have to coax this group into talking! )

Thanks in advance,
Alison

Personally, I find Lamb’s Pride bulky to be a little itchy. Having said that, though, I’m making a sweater out of it and I don’t think it’ll be so bad that I wouldn’t wear it, so a blanket that’s going to be thrown over her clothes might be fine. It IS fairly nice to knit with, though, and I love the way it looks finished.

I’m using Lorna’s Laces Shephard’s Worsted for a baby blanket. It’s washable wool, worsted weight, and very soft. I really enjoy knitting with it. I agree, Lamb’s Pride might be itchy and is a “hairy” yarn. For babies and small kids, I think washable is a good thing.

I have a skein of Lorna’s Laces I’m using for some socks, and I think it’s great. But at $15 a skein, it’s going to be one expensive baby blanket. Now don’t get me wrong, I could manage to justify it! But my husband, on the other hand …

A great suggestion, though!

How about Malabrigo? That’s the softest 100% wool Ive ever felt… And, if you love handpaints, you will LOVE the colors!

i love lamb’s pride but it is a bit shed-y…especially their hand painted. the mohair ya know. i think malabrigo would be wonderful but it could be pricy. it is a good sized skein of like 200-225 yards though so it isn’t horrible. it is stuff i can NOT walk away from though. i haven’t found any yarn that i can’t get enough of like this stuff and i did the best i could to buy all skeins that my LYS had during their sale!

if you can justify the $15 i would definitely say go with malabrigo…heh

I would WHOLEHEARTEDLY recommend the 6-ply bulky merino from www.handpaintedyarn.com. It’s a quick knit on US9 or US10 needles, and sooooooo soft, and the colorways are gorgeous. Oh yeah, and it’s really affordable! I’m in love :inlove:
