[B]2 At a Time[B]

I am just curious: I have read that some of you work on more than one project at a time. I have always just worked on one project at a time from start to finish. What is the advantage of working on more than one at a time?

I don’t think there’s much of an advantage but I love to knit so if I’m waiting on yarn will start another project…sometimes I just get bored with one or get involved in another and the first one sleeps peacefully until I’m ready to get back onto it. Another reason is a request or someone has a new baby…

There’s not any advantage, unless you just get bored with the single project and want to do something different. Most of us that work on 2 or more projects, just can’t wait to try out another pattern, another yarn, so go ahead and start it.

I don’t usually knit more than one project at a time, but I know some of the folks who do site the advantage of a rest for their hands, IF each project has quite different sizes of needles.

I keep 1 project (usually dish cloths) in my car at all times. In fact I have a small box of cotton yarn in the car so I can always start another while out and about & on the road. I"ll knit when waiting to pick up my son or while I’m a pasenger.

Usually just 1 project going at home, though sometimes 2. For variuos reasons - just to try the new yarn right away, sudden gift deadline, ran out of yarn for 1 project & waiting for shipment, just pain bored with 1 project for any number of reasons - just a few reasons that come to mind why I might have 2 projects going.

I have several going right now. It’s nice if you get bored to work on something else or on different sized needles for awhile. OTOH…if you leave it too long you can forget what you were doing which is the case with a few of them.

I get overly bored during certain sections of items.
Like now I have a long way of leg on my socks, once I get to the heel I’ll probably work until they are done.

On my sweater I just got done with the back panel and didn’t look forward to more of the same on the front panels.

And I needed to finish something so I did a couple of washcloths. After that I may start a hat so I can have something quick to finish.

It will take me at least 6 months of ONLY working on my crochet afghan so I really need breaks doing that. Although taking breaks it will probably take me years before I get to the marathon until it’s done part

I write down what I was doing or put the printed pattern with notes in the project’s bag. My only problem is if I can’t decipher the “code” I wrote.

I have several OTN right now as well. I don’t really know that it’s an advantage per se. I just usually have one large project and a few smaller ones. For instance I have a blanket OTN for my DD. I intended ti to be for her birthday, but that’s 8 weeks away so I started a smaller project so that I can have some gifts for her ON her birthday. I also have a few things I put aside for more “pressing” projects

For me it’s much like the others have said. I also try to keep something that takes thought and effort and something that’s mindless, cuz they both very much serve their purpose.

I also put some down very briefly to knit one of the oddball blankets when they come my way.

I used to be a one project at a time person, but since joining KH I have gotten so enthusiastic about knitting that my production level has skyrocketed. I am currently working on a lace shawl which takes focus and uninterrupted time, so I also have socks I am working on that I can take with me to work on while waiting or when I’m on the computer or just taking a lunch break and just have a few minutes to knit.
