Azel pullover

I loved the Azel pullover so much that I decided to make one for each of my sister’s kids, even the baby. However, I am a bit stuck…

I had to modify the pattern a bit because she is a baby- for the size 2 it says 41 stitches, so I cast on 35. (which should work because size 3/4 is 45)

Anyway, now that I have less stitches, I need to amend the pattern a little for the neck opening, bit but I don’t know how.
This is the original: (my stitches are 35 (so smaller than smallest listed) Thanks for the help!

Neck opening:
Row 1 (right side): knit (11, 13, 15, 17, 19, 21, 23, 25 sts), bind off the
next (19, 19, 21, 21, 23, 23, 25, 25 sts), knit (10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 22, 24
sts). (22, 26, 30, 34, 38, 42, 46, 50 sts)
Row 2 (wrong side): k1, p1, k1, p1, k1, purl to neck opening, using a cable
cast on {cast on 19, 19, 21, 21, 23, 23, 25, 25 sts}, purl to last 5 sts, k1,
p1, k1, p1, k1. (41, 45, 51, 55, 61, 65, 71, 75 sts)

It depends a bit on how old the baby is. The one thing you don’t want is too small a neck opening. Depending on the baby’s age you could try the numbers below. If you think the neck may be too narrow, you might change it to 8-19-8sts since baby’s have proportionally large heads.

For row 1 knitting 9 sts, bind off the center 17, knit 8sts. That’ll give you 9-17-9sts (counting the last stitch after the bind off.
For row 2, cast on 17 at the neck opening.

THANKS SO MUCH!
