I think your looking for Meg Swansen’s jogless jog

Jogless jogs are for stripes. The other one is for joining in the round - I find when I switch the first and last stitch in place, pulling one through the other with a crochet hook, it’s the only way that gives me a perfect invisible join.
Another way is to CO 1 more stitch than you need, join by slipping the first stitch, working the first row, then knit (or purl) the last and first stitch together.
Someone gave me this link when I asked about step reduction, and I found easy and helpful…
