Avoiding Holes with Slipped Sts

Instructions on a pattern are that to avoid a hole while knitting sl sts, knit the stitch 1 row below together with the sl st. How on earth is this done? I’ve tried it so many different ways and always end up with 2 stitches instead of 1. Please help me!:hair:

Lift the stitch that’s below up onto the left needle, so the two are on there next to each other. Then knit them together.
