Attempting to knit my own design

Is anyone familiar with the book Sweater 101 by Cheryl Brunette? I cannot design this for myself due to my size, just would not look good at all. So I’m considering using one of her schematics for standard sizes. She has 30 different standard sizes in this book.

I’m hoping the above picture actually shows up but it is one example of women size 46 (bust measurement)

Just wanting a few opinions. I know it’s probably not the best way to do thing but it’s really my only choice to get this done.

Thank you!

That’s a very well-planned and useful book. Why do you think it’s not the best way to design a sweater?
It seems to me that the idea of the book is to use the schematics in order to get the size and style that you want.

I’m happy to hear that. I was thinking the same thing but my confidence is in my shoes lately. :joy: Thank you so much!

We’re looking forward to seeing your design work out! Have fun with it.

Thank you!!

One of the best things about knitting is working towards something you personally want and being able to adapt patterns, sizes, and shapes to an individual taste. I started knitting because I could not buy a bright multicoloured sweater for my son, so made one.
I think its great you are taking this step towards a personal design, it takes a bit of bravery and it might not always work out exactly but each time adds to the learning experience.

A good size swatch or several if you need to change needle size, will be a massive help in this project.

Are you planning for a single colour, plain stockinette, or something lace or cable or… ?
It will be great to follow your progress.

This looks very helpful. Are you concerned about the bust sizing, i.e. that if you have a larger bust (larger cup size), and make the pattern to fit that measurement, the shoulders and arms will be oversized?

(That is my personal fitting challenge and I can give a little advice on it if it is relevant to you.)

If you are going to make your sweater in plain stockinette, you might like to use a yarn with a subtle colour change to relieve the “boredom”. Or you might be like me and enjoy knitting miles of plain stockinette!

Looks like the author has many helpful video tutorials:

I must have a look at some of these.

Thank you for your support! It’s a very easy lace pattern. I need to swatch then wash and block then figure everything out from there!
