Attaching Buttons

My knitting teacher, who is on vacation, showed me an easy way to attach buttons to a sweater. Of course, I forgot how.

The gist of it is that you get both ends of a strand of yarn on the wrong side, having put the yarn thru the button, which, of course, is on the right side. You then tie the yarn into a knot, and that’s it.

Does anyone know how to do this?

I do a lot of knitting for babies and small children.
[B]I’d never trust a knot.[/B]
I sew buttons on knits the same way they’re sewed on clothing, except I leave very long tails to weave in.

I also never use buttons that are made in China on children’s clothing.
