Asymetrical Cable sweater

I really like this sweater, but I’m not thrilled about the bottom edge. I know it’s supposed to be uneven, but it’s not my thing. I’m guessing it’s like that because the cable is started from row one, without any sort of an edge ribbing. Am I right?

If so, would adding an inch or so of some sort of a ribbing cause the sweater to have an even bottom edge? I was thinking about adding some seed or moss stitch, as I don’t really like standard ribbing.

Opinions, corrections, and suggestions welcome!

I’m posting the pattern directions for the front so you can see what it says to do.

Front:
Cast on 86 (98, 110) stitches. Set up for cable:
K50 (55, 60) – Cable:P1, K1, P1 repeat 13 times – K22 (29, 34)
Continue working in this manner keeping the cable as described above. Cable:
R1: P1, K1, P1 repeat 13 times total
R2: K1, P1, K1 repeat 13 times
R3 to R11: repeat R1&2
R12: P1, K1, cross 6 over 5 stitches

You could experiment a little by casting on the number of stitches for the cable with maybe 10 on each side and try it. Patterns often add stitches on the first row to accommodate the cables, so you might have to see if you’d need less edging stitches than body stitches.

Maybe you could copy what ever the sleeves have for their edge for the bottom edge of the sweater (looks pretty simple), or else make a bottom edge that mirrors the large ribbing of the neck, but that would take more calculation than I personally am capable of at this point in my knitting career.
