I want to knit Askew from Knitty. I was going to use Ty Dy yarn. How do I figure out how many balls to buy? Do I need to look at yardage or grams? Ty Dy has 196 yards in 100g balls and the pattern was knit in Noro Silk garden that is 109 yard in 50g balls it calls for 6 balls. How much Ty Dy should I buy? Its expensive so I don’t want to have extra.

By my math, you should purchase 4 skeins of Ty Dy.

The Silk Garden minimum yardage requirement is 109y x 6 = [B]654 yds [/B]

4 balls[/B] of Ty Dy will give you 196y x 4 =[B] 784 yds [/B](a bit over)
3 balls of Ty Dy will give you 196y x 3 = 588 yds (too little).

Thanks that is what I figured too but I just wanted to be sure. I have a 10% off coupon to use at a local knit shop tomorrow.
