Hi, my aunt wants to learn how to crochet but didn’t know where to start. She has some arthritis in her hands and I know I read somewhere there are hooks that are supposed to be more comfortable for people w/ arthritis. Can anyone heolp me with this? Thanks Muchly!
Arthritic crocheting
I have Lupus with pretty significant arthritis (in a flare right now 
). I usually don’t crochet as much as I knit so I can’t advise on crochet hooks. But if you want to teach her knitting I have found the turbo needles to be very very comfortable and easy on my hands. Also, one time (I can’t remember where I saw it) you can buy these little wrist packs that you can either freeze or heat up in the microwave and you wear them like wristlets when you are knitting or crocheting. Just an idea for comfort. But it can be done. I am just finishing the CPH. It’s smaller than I would have liked but oh well!
I believe you’re thinking of Clover Soft Touch hooks. Instead of a round handle, they have a flat cushioned handle that is easier to grip…less pressure on your fingers and you don’t have to grasp as tightly as some of the others. I have a few of them and they work well. They are sold in most craft stores in the US (Joann’s, Michaels, etc.) and also on Amazon.com.
The Clover Soft Touch do work very well. I have RA, and knitting is easier, but sometimes I like to put a crochet trim on things.
