Hi I’m confused with this pattern Armhole. I have attached can you help?
Armhole
What is the name of your pattern and which size are you making, the 1st,2nd,3rd?
For the directions under Armholes, the smallest size, cast off 3sts at the beginning of the RS (right side) row, work to the end of the row, turn and cast off 3sts. Work to the end of the WS (wrong side) row, turn to the RS, bind off 2sts, work across the row, turn, bind off 2sts and work across the WS row.
It’s from Burda Knitting 08 -Multi coloured sweater 3rd size.
I did the same as you have explained but I end up with 22sts instead of 42sts. I calculated 16sts to decrease but it works out following pattern 29sts.
Yes, it should be 16sts decreased. Bind off 4sts at the beginning of the next 4 rows.
It’s a bit confusing as written but the key words are, “…at each edge…” and of course the stitch count helps too.
So bind off 4sts, work to the end, turn, bind off 4sts work to the end. Repeat these steps once more.
Are there decreases in the pattern or a lace stitch in the sleeve?
Just normal straight knitting on sleeves.
I have just learnt to bind off at both end on the same row. It makes the decreases level on the row. So I will do bind off 4sts at beg and end of the next 2 rows. Is that ok?
Yes, that’ll work. Have fun finishing up your sweater!
(Just as an aside, if you bind off at the beginning of 2 successive rows, the difference in levels is such a small fraction of an inch that it’s unnoticeable unless you’re working with super bulky yarn.)
Hi, I see you have mentioned binding off on at both ends of the same row. I have never heard of this before, can you share how this is done please?
I always bind off on successive rows as salmonmac said, there is so little difference no one would ever know, but I’m intrigued by the idea of binding off each end on the same row.
If it doesn’t work it is. Bind off at both end you tube. Jolie knits
It really works and neat
That’s great. Thanks for taking the time to share the tutorial.
