Armhole shaping for back of baby sweater

I am tired of ripping out row upon row of knitting because I have misread an instruction so I thought I would ask the question before I got there. My pattern says to:

Work 8 rows dec 1 st at each end of every row.

I assume it means knitting 2 together at the beginning of the row and knitting 2 together at the end of the same row, starting with row 1. Is knitting 2 together the best way?

I thank you ahead of time for possibly saving me a lot of time and frustration.

K2tog works well for the end of the row and ssk (or the improved ssk) works for the beginning of the row on knit rows. If this is stockinette, where the front is knit and the back is purl, then purl2tog works at the beginning of the row and purl2tog through the back loop works for the end of the row. These sts are demonstrated in the videos under the Glossary tab at the top of the page if you’d like to see them.

Thank you so much, and with a video yet!!! It is indeed in stockinette stitch.
