I’m working on a sleeveless turtleneck for my SO, and in the instructions for the armhole shaping it says to bind off x stitches per side. And while those instructions are clear enough, I’m wondering if instead of binding off the required stitches, would it looks better if I used a decrease instead? For example, instead of binding off 6 stitches, I would work K2tog. 6 times. In my mind it seems that you’d get a smoother line doing it that way.
Sweaters have you bind off for under the arm. I think a more gradual decrease would be too tight in the armpit.
hmm, so it’s more of an ease issue? But instead of a gradual decrease, I’d be decreasing the same amount of stitches in the same row. looks like I’ll have to do a couple of swatches and compare the two. hehe was trying to get out of doing such a thing, but I think what I’ll do is knit 4 swatches, one using the bind off method, for front/back, and the other for the decrease front/back, to get a better idea. But I thank you for your input, Ingrid. Your advice is always welcome ^.^
Oh, so you mean doing six K2tog in a row??? Interesting thought…you can be the experimenter and let us know how it goes!
yup, that’s what I meant. I know it can be done with collars to give the collar better pickup points, but I had wondered if the same could be done with armholes. heh guess I’m gonna find out ^.^ I’ll let you know.
