Armhole measurement

I am knitting a cardigan, and am working on the back. I’ve reached the armholes, and did the decreases. The pattern now reads: Cont without further shaping until armhole measures 7 1/2 in, ending with RS facing for next row.

Where do I measure the armhole from? Should I start the measurement at the point where I did the first decrease, or start from where I knit without further shaping?

From the first decrease. Hold a straight edge across the back and measure straight up to the neck.
