Argh- finding cashmere

yeah, I found some, but preferably, I’d rather not pay over $100 to knit the scarf. Perhaps I am being too picky about the % cashmere. I need just under 400 yards, worsted weight. Anyone have any store suggestions? I tried knitpicks, Elann, Jimmy Bean, Jilly and the Naked Sheep.
I might have to take a trek to Webs, but I’ve never been there. Would I be able to get a good deal? I am hoping to spend $65 or so on the yarn. I am being impractical, aren’t I?

If you want a lot of cashmere you’re going to have to pay more, but there are some for less than $100. I have no idea of the quality on these. All you have to do is Google it.

is that your cat?

When I was in Webs last week, I felt some cashmere. I was not especially impressed. I–and I think Amy and Lisa agreed–felt that alpaca was much softer.

Of course, I have no experience with cashmere, so I don’t know if this was typical, but that’s my 2 cents. Alpaca is less expensive, too.

OHHHH!! I felt some Debby Bliss alpaca for the first time today! :inlove: :inlove: :inlove: :inlove: :inlove: :inlove: :inlove:

I ended up folding and getting some yarn that was 25% Cashmere/35% Extra Fine Wool/5% Silk/35% Viscose

I hope it’s soft- the person that wrote the description loved it. Well, I am sure it will make a nice scarf, and if it’s not quite what I am looking for, I bet it will make a nice gift  I also bought a couple skeins for a cute cardigan and hat (of course I was shopping for a KAL) .
Yes, that is my kitty, Grendel. I will have to make him a sweater, as was suggested. He has a Christmas one, but I think a blue one may be in order. I made him a scarf last year, I will have to see if I can dig up a picture.

Here’s another site: http://www3.telus.net/riversong/cashmere.html. I haven’t ordered from them yet, but I’m planning to try it after reading about it on another list. Even if you don’t buy, the pictures of the cashmere being obtained from the goat are interesting… I had not idea how it was done.

I just finished a small project using Rowan Classic Cashsoft DK, and omg, it is phenomenal. Almost the exact same fiber content as Debbie Bliss Cashmerino. It’s heavenly soft, and is even machine washable. YUM.

I’ve used Lion Brand Cashmere Blend, and it was verrrry soft. I think it’s only about 13% cashmere, but it’s blended with merino and is lovely. I think it costs around $10 per ball or so.
