Hi
I hope someone can help me figure out my pattern. Not sure why I can’t figure it out - I feel I am missing something obvious.
I am knitting an Aran sweater. I have completed the back, and am doing the raglan sleeve for the front. But I don’t understand how many stitches I should be reducing.
The patterns says:
Now work raglan shaping
- K1 Slip 1 K1 PSSO pattern to last 3 sets K2tog K1
- K1 P1 follow sets as set to last 2sts P1K1
Repeat these 2 rows until 62 sts remain
Now work raglan on both front and back thus:
- K1 slip 1 K1 PSSO pattern to last 3sts K2tog K1
- K1 P2tog follow sets as set to last 3 sets P2tog through the back of loops K1
Repeat these 2 rows until 40sts remain
Front (and here is where I am confused)
Work as back until 78sts remain
???
How do I do the front?
I need the 78 sets in the front for the neck shaping, but I don’t understand how to follow the pattern to make the raglan shaping if the only instruction is the final number of stitches.
If anyone understands this, help would be much appreciated
Welcome to KH. What pattern are you using? A link to it if possible is good. Linking to paid patterns is excellent - you never know, someone might decide to buy it. I don’t have the answer but you will get one. It might be helpful to know how many stitches you have on the needle before you start your decreases.
Seeing the pattern photo and knowing the name is helpful.
The raglan shaping front and back seems to be
-
K1 Slip 1 K1 PSSO pattern to last 3 sets K2tog K1 (2sts decreased)
-
K1 P1 follow sets as set to last 2sts P1K1
Repeat these 2 rows until 62 sts remain
-
K1 slip 1 K1 PSSO pattern to last 3sts K2tog K1 (2sts decreased)
-
K1 P2tog follow sets as set to last 3 sets P2tog through the back of loops K1 (2sts decreased)
Repeat these 2 rows until 40sts remain
The only difference is that for the front shaping you have to remember to stop at 78sts remaining.
So you’ll repeat the first set of rows 1 and 2 with 2sts decreased with each repeat until you get to 78sts remaining. Just keep working rows 1 and 2, 1 and 2, 1 and 2 until the required stitch number (78). Then there will probably be instructions for shaping the neck at the front.
