Hi,
I have just knitted an Aran Cardigan for myself and want to line it with a fleece lining. Has anyone any ideas on how to sew the lining in. i.e. should I sew the caridgan up first and the fleece separately and then sew them together or line each panel up first and then sew it all together. I also want to put a hood onto it has anyone got a pattern for that.
I have never done this before, but
I think lining the pieces first would be easier and lead to less errors and/or puckering than trying to line an assembled piece. It may leave a small gap at the seams depending on how close to the edge you get with your lining and how tightly you sew your seams, but I think that would be okay.
I’ve lined the body of a sweater before (but not the sleeves). I did it by joining the knit pieces together and measuring out the lining fabric accoring to the assembled sweater. I sewed the lining itself together and finally, placed it inside the sweater, wrong sides together and slip stitched it in place.
Good luck with the Aran! I trying to choose a pattern for one for my next project.
