Applied I Chord Edge Along Neckline

I’m finishing the Floodlight Tee by Tanis and am a little confused. When doing the I Chord for the neck, the directions say to skip every 5th stitch. Also says to pull yarn tightly after each round. When I skip the stitches in doing the I Chord it is making the garment pucker along the neck edge. The pattern photograph does not look like it’s puckered at all. Maybe this can be smoothed out when blocked?

Washing and blocking may well relax the knitting and decrease the puckering. However, it may be necessary to fiddle around a bit with the i-cord. You don’t have to pull the yarn too tightly after each round, just firmly. Too tightly can contribute to the puckering.
It’s also possible that you need to skip less frequently than every 5th stitch. Maybe try alternating a skip at the 6th with a skip at the 5th or even a skip every 6th stitch.
It depends on how severe the puckering is. would try this out on a swatch to see which relaxes the i-cord and reduces the puckering.

Very pretty!

Thank you Salmonmac, perhaps I was pulling it too tight and I will try your suggestion also. Doing an I chord is a new experience for me. The sleeves went well but I didn’t have to skip any stitches
