Hi everyone…
in response to my cheap purchase yesterday (yarn with a certain game show co-host name on it with the initials VW) Th_s Y-rn s-cks!!! I dropped one stitch and OMG…every stitch I “tried” to pick up is driving me bonkers…I have used my bamboo needles, my circs, my Bernat Alum, my boye alum and crochet hooks…every fiber in the “ply” is splitting…and I am only on the rib 2x2 on the botom of the sweater:waah:
Picking up stitches with any yarn can be tricky. If you really don’t like the yarn, don’t use it. Give it away or sell it.
since you just bought it, you could probably return it. you could even try returning the one you’re knitting from. just explain to them the poor quality. in my opinion, i would consider it “damaged”. (and i worked at one of the “big three” for two and a half years. i would definitely let you return it and mark it damaged. of course, i also kind of felt sorry for our customers because of, well, many things that were beyond their control. :teehee:)
Definitely take it back if it’s not working for you.
As an aside though, I’ve been working on an afghan for my DD who HATES anything the slightest bit “itchy” and I chose the VW yarn because it was so soft (and washable - she’s at college after all!). I’ve found it really nice to work with.
I’m using my Knitpicks Options circs. No problems - not splitty at all.
Maybe you got a defective batch?
Yea, good points guys…didn’t think about the “defective” part… don’t know about “returning” in your areas…but here ( our local craft store M----el’s) I would be interrogated, most likely embarrassed (cause I dipped in all three colors) then sent home with a “in store coupon”…when all I want to do is knit a “nice” inexpensive sweater for a toddler!!!
I knit the Irish Hiking Scarf and hat with the VW yarn and had no problems. I used Addi Turbos and bamboo circulars.
That batch must be off.
i am so sorry you would be treated like that. during my time in retail, i realized that most people (management and the like) are in it because it’s a job. they don’t really care about the customers as people, just as paying customers who can help them meet their goals set upon them by their superiors. now that a.c. moore has cheapened their yarn selection, i don’t really go in those places except to buy a magazine with a coupon. i’m lucky enough to have two WONDERFUL lys’s no more than 30 minutes away from me.
they would in no way be justified for embarrassing you because you tried all three colors. how were you to know that they would all be defective? the way people can be treated sometimes blows my mind. i’m going to go try not to think about it anymore now. :roll:
Yeah, Michaels has gotten horrible on their customer service. I know a lot of people who won’t go in there anymore. That being said, go and get your money back! It does sound like you got a defective batch-- by the way, defective batches are something Lion Brand is known for. If Michaels give you a hard time, I would also contact Lion Brand, and even Ms. W–te herself-- I think she must have a website up.

Sorry:flirt: to bring this back up…but, I did contact LB yarn company thru emails…they have responded and asked to send them the labels…I asked if I could fax instead since I have a deadline…next day they sent me a fax number…well, after 3 days of emails, I have tried all day to fax, all I get is a busy signal:roflhard: and they are now closed for the day…:hair:
I bought some of this yarn when it was on sale at JoAnn’s a couple of weeks ago. I made a top down toddler sweater. Since it was acrylic I wanted to block it by washing it. I washed it in with my Grandbabies clothes, nothing fuzzy, nothing rough. The knitted sweater came out looking awful. It was all fuzzy and pilled everywhere. I hate the thing and would never think of giving it to anyone as a gift. I won’t waste my time and use that particular yarn again. I wonder if Vanna knows it does this?
maybe if enough people let her know she’ll do something like insist they up the quality.
