I have a book in french from 1918… Does anyone speak french?
I should, but I don’t. All those years of French and all I remember are random words and how to make Bouche D Noelle and eat crepes
Anyway I do think it’s really cool you that old of a book. I LOVE old books. When my grandmother died and we had to clean out her house I took ALL the books. I drive the hubby nuts buying old books esp old cookbooks and flyers at the Goodwill or garage sales.
Native French speaker here! :waving: If you have any questions, just ask!
If you’re like me and have questions at O-dark-30, try these links. Free translation from French to English (and other languages). It came in really handy with our family’s travels to Guatemala. My niece is adopting two little ones and they started life with mostly Spanish speaking caregivers. It’s cool…you can even copy and paste onto it. I think the first one’s best/easiest to read. http://dictionary.reference.com/translate/text.html

The title is Tartarin De Tarascon… I’m pretty sure it’s a text book… It has a french/english dictionary in the back. REALLY good codition…
Does anyone know what this is about, and if I want to spend hours translating? It’s by… Daudet. :?
I love old books… I have 4 REALLY old books… One is called vacation days, That’s me all over Mable (about 90 years… GREAT condition… I’ve had that since I was 13, was my great great gmas. Also a Currier and Ives colelection book, and this one. I love old books… And for me, they are more than just “books”… I don’t put them on display… I put them on my shelf and read them like the rest. The Vacation Days isn’t in the greatest condition, so I don’t have that one out but I do read it.
I’m currently working on some newspapers from the 30’s and later earlier, more or less.

Alphonse Daudet is a well known French writer, and Tartarin de Tarascon is one of his major work. It’s a novel, but I never read it so I don’t really know what it’s about! :teehee: I don’t know if it’s the best of French literature, but I would think it’s entertaining.
Here’s a wikipedia page (in English) on the book: Tartarin of Tarascon - Wikipedia
Because it’s an old book, you can actually download an English version of it for free (and legally) from the Gutenberg project:
Read the Wiki page… I think I’m going to translate it. :woot: I think it will be fun. And who knows… I might actaully learn something!!! Thanks!
