Anyone knitting NANCY BUSH'S VINTAGE SOCKS?

:happydancing: I’m knitting the Child’s French Sock, from Nancy Bush’s book KNITTING VINTAGE SOCKS, and wondered if anyone wanted to ‘knit along’ with ME ?

I have just reached the point where you decrease the gusset stitches, after turning the heel. This photo was taken last night just before starting the heel.

I’d love to have some company, if you are knitting this or any other sock from her book, since I’ll probably try most of them eventually !

Or is it required that Knit-alongs be done from patterns that anyone can acquire freely over the internet? I apologize if that is the case…newbie here, although I did get in on the far end of the Pomatomus knit-along.

ohh pretty socks :happydance:

I don’t have the book but going to the library today and will see if they can get it for me… since their online catalog isn’t showing it…

I TOTALLY understand the book thing !

I searched and searched, my library, garage sales, forums…hoping to find the book at a ‘give-away’ price, if I couldn’t check it out, but, alas, NO LUCK !

I finally gave in and ordered it. Found a really good buy on it from KnitPicks, and their shipping was only $2.49.
Just as well, since there are SO MANY things I want to knit from it. I love the fact that it is spiral-bound, so that I can easily photocopy it on my scanner, to make pages I can mark on as I knit each round or section.

If I finish before you can start, I’ll still be here for you !

Last night’s progress …

http://www.flickr.com/photos/dottycam/579237026/in/photostream/ :cheering:

:cheering:Yay…Hooray…:cheering:

I finished the first sock tonight AND found an old postal scale at a garage sale, so that I can ‘kindof’ know if I have as much yarn left as I’ve used on the first sock ! And, I do…I have more left than I used, which is ALWAYS a good thing, right? ! ?

This is an outstandingly beautiful pattern, and easy to knit…I wish it was a free pattern that I could link to !

Anyway…I think I hear an echo in here ! It’s SO QUIET ! Please join me if you have the pattern and have been DYING to try it !

:woot:YAY! So glad you got the first one done… lol you scared me with the scale till I read your last post…:rofling:… I love that green and looking good … I’m waiting for a call from the library so hopefully soon… They also found another book of hers Folk Socks I think… so I told them order that one as well lol… :teehee:

Here’s a link to a photo of the finished first sock…

I never thought of asking my library to purchase a specific book…WOW ! I may try that next week…that would be super if they got in more sock knitting books. They’re responsible for me learning to knit correctly this time, as I checked out practically everything they had on the subject !

I know ours doesn’t have a very big knitting section at all… I don’t think they will buy a book… they will try and get the book from another library…

It looks Wonderful!! You did a good job!!

Ahhhhhhhh…now I understand you ! Our library is in a system like that, where 4 libraries share their ‘stock’ and you can request a book from any one of them. But alas, I have ‘shopped’ the whole system dry at this point… Still, they may have a budget for taking requests…after all, you never know if you don’t ask, right ?

I’ve done 9 of the 11 cuff repeats on the second sock of this pair, and had to make myself stop for the evening. Having a little center back trouble (probably from all the sittin’ and knittin’) and I try not to push my hands too far at a time either. The aluminum needles are kindof ungiving on my hands, but I don’t trust myself not to break the smaller bamboo ones.

:cheering: They’re done…they’re DONE ! ! !:cheering:

And they’re very stretchy and comfortable…maybe the best pair I’ve done so far !

I’m so excited !:muah:

Here’s another shot of them on my flickr page…

I can hardly wait to see what yarns you girls do YOURS in !
Bring 'em on ! I’ll keep checking back !

:woot:They look wonderful!!!

I had a message from the library to pick up a book… but it was just the Folk Socks… they are still trying to get the other in… I should have just bought it but now feel like I should wait on them… :teehee:

Oh, how I wish I could get the other Nancy Bush books through our library !

I never thought I would actually LIKE a heel flap, but this one gave me all kinds of ideas for future socks. I see alot of modifications in my future !:happydancing:

Feel free to knit ANY Nancy Bush pattern in this thread…I’m definitely interested !

:woot:YAY!! They called it is in… going to pick it up this afternoon on our way out… I’ll post photos when I can…

Have you seen her book Knitting on the Road? I have been googling her patterns and a lot of people have made a New England sock that is so pretty… gonna try to get that one next

No, dustinac, I haven’t seen that book yet…but I’ve heard great things about all of her publishings !

I can’t wait to see what you knit !

I’m really eyeballing :inlove: the cycling socks from Knitting Vintage Socks…I’ve been so curious about knitting a pair of kneesocks,…I guess because I always had trouble finding any that were long enough to reach my knees when I was younger. At 49, I think they’d just be MY SECRET, now ! But they could be fun to wear under a long skirt this Fall !

I’m home lol… they called the day I was leaving to let me know it was in… no problem will grab the book when we head out… get to WV with sock yarn and plenty of it but no book…disappointed I go through mom’s sock books (a lot of them for someone who doesn’t knit socks :rofling:) and she has the book :woot:… I started the Fancy silk socks and here is one done (she also has nifty sock blockers that I wanna order)… the other I’m still on the cuff… and she just ordered Knitting on the road book and More Sensational sock book so in late August I’ll have plenty of knitting to do…

Those would be pretty… I thought of doing the Estonian ones out of her Folk socks book… but just not sure I’d wear a shock that high… could make them shorter…

That sock looks great ! :muah: I love that your mom buys all these sock-knitting books when she doesn’t really knit socks ! Even better library to borrow from than you already had !

I looked through the Knitting Vintage Socks book last night, and didn’t see anything I wanted to start, so I checked my patterns from online venues. I decided to give the Monkey pattern another go…the first time I tried, I got past the heel and realized I didn’t have enough yarn for two socks, so I frogged. It was REALLY hard to get it on past the heel, though. That yarn had no give, and the yarn I’m using now is nice and stretchy, but I’ll still just have to wait and see when I get that far.

I’d love to have good sock blockers…I think I want the plastic ones…but they’re fairly expensive for my budget.

Think I should start a separate thread for monkey makers :)?

Thank you the other one is slow going… we decided to move rooms around this week lol… it is cutting into my knitting time :rofling:

I see ya started the Monkey post already I haven’t made them yet either… I keep thinking my next sock will be Twisted Flower from Cookie A. or Bayerische sock…maybe we need Sock KAL :teehee:

Mom got both books in and said they had a lot of pretty patterns…I know what you mean about the blockers I like them too but I think ohh more yarn instead :oo:

YES ! A general sock knit along, for any sock anyone is working on would be great…you could pick up tips for all sorts of patterns !:cheering:

Why don’t you start it, since I have two going right now? I’ll join in on it, too !:happydance:

Have you been to the new chatroom yet? Everytime I’ve tried it (twice), it’s been empty.

I went in once but no one was in there but a knitty boy or something like that to keep me company :rofling:

boy I love knitting the socks too. I have knit 6 pairs now just to become better at understanding the patterns. They are very pretty and very cool to make!!!
