Anyone have any cute beginners baby pattern?

Hi everyone,

I’m just about to finish my very first project ever. A safe simple scarf. It’s looking pretty good for only starting to knit almost 2 weeks ago. But now I found out my cousin is having a baby in 6 weeks and I would love to knit something special for her baby boy. Problem is I’m afraid! :frowning: I need to find a pattern for something really cute but also really easy. Anyone have any suggestions? A hat, booties a baby blanket? I would really love to knit a baby blanket but think it maybe too big and complicated for a 2nd project.

Help!

Ok, I’m back.

Great about the scarf Esmerelda!

Practice the purl stitch, and any of the “easy” baby patterns should be attainable. Most of the patterns at Bevs (the link I posted) are really easy.

How exciting! I love knitting for babies. I would suggest a hat first and then a pair of booties. I still havent done a baby blanket yet. And six weeks is pretty short notice. I would stress myself out if I was doing a blanket. Thats just me.

I’ve got a pattern for a baby hat that I just do from memory. I made it for my babies, I can type it up this weekend and post it here.

Oh, I would really love that hat pattern. I saw the link for baby patterns, everything looks so cute. I think I will attempt a hat and booties. A baby blanket would probably stress me out. Especially since my cousin is saying the baby is big and maybe induced a week or two earlier.

Thanks!

Esmerelda, look above to my post to Tamar about the fake rib baby hat, it would be incredibly easy! Just rows of stockinette and reverse stockinette, join the cast on edge to the bound off edge, gather up one end, and you’re done!

Ooooohhhhhh, thanks gardenmommy! Will do.

Esmerelda,

Sorry I wasnt able to post it this weekend, I was in an car accident! Were all good. I’ll post apic of it with the pattern in pattern central later.

Heres a simple pattern I made for one of my babies. The decreases on this hat is really pretty.

Molly’s Hat
Size 8 needles
Cotton Tots Yarn
Cast on 50 stitches
This pattern starts at the brim.
Knit every row for 6 rows.
Stocknette stitch for the next 2 1/2 inches (sometimes I do 3 inches)
Decrease as follows.
Row 1 Knit 5, Knit 2 together till end
Row 2 Purl
Row 3 Knit 4, Knit 2 together till end
Row 4 Purl
Row 5 Knit 3, knit 2 together till end
Row 6 Purl
Row 7 Knit 2, Knit 2 together till end
Row 8 Purl
Row 9 Knit 1, Knit 2 together till end
Row 10 Purl
Row 11 Knit 2 tog
Cut yarn, thread needle.
Draw through remaining 6 stitches and seam down.

Thank you Pixiewhispers. I’m sorry to hear about your accident. I hope everyone is okay. I will try the pattern thank you again.

This makes an absolutely beautiful blanket and is garter stitch. I used a baby lash and though it was costly, turned out just so gorgeous that I made a second one.

These knit up easily too!

I made a hat to go with these two, but can’t find the pattern. I am including a picture. Don’t be deceived. This blanket is knit on the diagonal, but when finished is square! The receiver of this gift thought I had bought the set at a fancy shop and was shocked when her husband told her I made it. Happy knitting!

Ooooohhhhh! That’s really cute nonny2. How long did it take you to knit it?

Well, I have arthritis in my hands so it took longer than it would you. It is REALLY an easy pattern and anyone could do this. On top of that, if you use a fuzzy yarn like the baby lash minor booboos don’t show. If you are looking for something for baby this is great. The hat and booties took me only about an hour a piece.

I have a pattern, All you do is knit two rectrangles as long as the foot, then knit for 5 inches then bind off. Now sew up one short side then gather at the opposite side and sew up half of the lenghwise side and work in the roun for the cuff. Repeat for the second sock and Ta-da!

Hi I’m a new knitter also. I just finished my first scarf as well. My sister is having a baby in 4 months and I also would like to knit her something. I checked out the bev website. Cute Cute Cute!!! I just love the ducky hat and botties. Thanks for all the help guys. I’ve learned more off this site than I ever could in books.
