Anyone Added Crochet Row to Fix a Stretched Neckline?

ok, so about 18 months ago Waggus asked about how to fix a sweater neckline that had stretched. And JanInCA suggested adding crochet rows. And, yes, it was the Yarn Harlot that suggested basically adding what seems to me to be like a stay stitch row of crochet on the backside … see link below. so here’s my question: has anybody used this technique to fix a neckband that stretched? How did it work out for you? How many rows in from the inside edge of the neckline did you add your crochet row? And if you used this idea, did you add only the staystitch row on the backside of the neckline or did you also add crochet rows to the inside edge of the neckline to add fabric? I’m very curious how this might have worked for someone (before I try!)
yep, my sweater is Alpaca and it was fine when I blocked it. washed it after wearing once and … stretcharoonie!
