Any tips for picking up stitches

I’m working on the Brielle boatneck tee. Had to pick up 128 stitches to start the back. Working with a #1 yarn which is like knitting with string! My eyes were crossing as I picked up these stitches and now have some small holes where I missed stitches. Will have to do same to front soon. Does anyone have tips to make it easier?
Thanks.

You’re picking up at the ends of the rows of stockinette where the usual ratio is to pick up 3sts for every 4 rows. That’s a useful guide. I also find it helpful to use markers to mark off the quarter way, halfway and 3-quarter way points (0.25, 0.5 and 0.75). That way you’re sure to keep on track to pick up the correct total number of sts or at least close to it.

I’m also amazed just about every time at how well this works, even when you feel there are small gaps along the picked up sts.

Thanks. I’m going to try that!

This is a useful tutorial. Make sure to pick up between stitch 1 and 2 rather than into stitch 1, as this avoids holes. I know this because I once spent hours and multiple attempts to pick up sleeve stitches on a top down garment!!

Wow! This is so helpful. I’m going to try this! Especially with the thin yarn I’m using, the seam will be fine. Thanks!

Hi Lele;
I don’t knit, but if I had to pick up stitches that are so tiny, I would try to use a small crochet hook to lift the stitches onto the knitting needles. I crochet and use my crochet hooks for lots of non-crochet projects.
