Any suggestions for a first sweater

Hi. I am looking for suggestions for a good first sweater pattern. I have been knitting for a couple years. I have made a ton of baby blankets, socks, Christmas stocking, hats, bags, you name it everything but a sweater.
I think my biggest fear is that I will have to seam it together. But I am ready to concur my fear!
If anyone has any pattern suggestions to help me get over my fear of sweaters I would be eternally grateful!

If you start with a top-down raglan pattern, you don’t have to seam!

I always hated my finished products because of my poor seaming, but when I learned the proper techniques it was easier and things looked so, so much better. So don’t be afraid of it. There are simple techniques that get you through it the right way.

So find a pattern that you like. Most sweaters are constructed very similarly, so give it a shot.

A good way to start is with a child’s sweater. The construction is the same, there’s less knitting, and the recipient isn’t as fussy.

www.knittingpatterncentral.com is a good place to look.

I agree with Ingy…

KnittingPureandsimple.com has the easiest top-down sweater patterns I know of…they have several for children!

My first sweater was my son’s raglan and I’m glad I went that way… it was simple just knitting in the round and picking up sts for the sleeves and neck… and no seaming!! If it had seaming it would be still sitting there waiting to be seamed

I am 7 inches away from completing my first sweater. I am making TUBEY along with many others from the TUBEY KAL. It has been a great learning experience, is a really cute sweater AND involves no seaming. The pattern is at knitty.com.

Next I am going to try the Grace sweater from Knitty. It is short sleeved and I figure by the time I am done it will be spring and perfect timing for a short sleeve sweater.
