Knittynewbie that sock is beautiful I think I am going to have to check out that etsy store!
Dotty your jaywalkers are coming along nicely!
My progress on my socks has been very very slow. I just really haven’t had much time to knit them. Thankfully they are for my mom’s birthday in Dec so I don’t have to stress too much yet! Tonight I am committing my tv time to them. So I will hopefully have a more cheerful update tomorrow!:teehee:
jberry,
LOL…I’ve heard other people saying the same thing about their ship date being 2 days away. Maybe they are psychic?lol
was it you that was asking if anyone had sock blockers? I bought some at the Loopy Ewe…they are red, and made of like vinyl/plastic really thick and sturdy and they were only $19 and they come in different sizes…I love them!!
That’s standard policy for them, julie ! On the 18th of September, my email said that my package had shipped on the 20th. I received it on the 24th, so your guess is as good as mine as to whether they tell you the “scheduled” ship date, or their calendar is wrong.
Wow…that felt like the longest time I’ve EVER spent knitting a heel ! Don’t know why, but it felt like I’d never get to the gussets. Now I’ve started decreasing them. :woot: The sock has to be TUGGED over my heel, so I stopped the leg portion at 5 inches…really should have stopped even sooner. I definitely could not have gotten it over my heel if I had gone the full 6 3/4 inches. But if I were knitting this JayWalker over 84 stitches, like the bigger size, the ribbing would stand open…it just sortof lies there loosely as it is. Maybe I should have done a few rows of garter stitch instead. I 've seen that and liked it, but I thought I needed the ribbing to keep the sock up…now I know that that’s not true. But I’m NOT starting over. I already dread knitting the second sock. I love the look of JayWalkers, so I know that once I have a month past them to look back, I’ll be glad I did them. This stitch pattern makes a really beautiful knitted fabric, and would be beautiful in a pillow, but because of the lack of stretch, I really don’t think it’s suitable for a sock…that’s just my opinion. Probably because I wore my Menehunes today, and they were SO WONDERFULLY STRETCHY !
Yes, that’s the set I ordered…the interchangeables in Nickel Plate.

Alot of the Harmony Needles seem to be on backorder…VERY POPULAR !
I just prefer metal. Lately, I only use my dpns for fixing dropped stitches and such !
I’m looking forward to trying to knit a hat using the Magic Loop method, rather than having to switch to dpns when I start to decrease. I just wish the set came with a couple of really long cords…I don’t know that the 32’s will be long enough for magiclooping a hat.
Thanks for the advice. I’m a rather tight knitter two. At the moment, I’m knitting a stranded sweater, so I know a bit of stranded knitting (you see the improvement troughout the sweater). I think I’ll play on safe and use cascade fixations for my first stranded sock (the yarn is elastic, so if it’s a bit tight, I can still get it on my feet)
Dotty, I’m totally in love with your jaywalkers. They look so pretty!
knittynewbie, what a wonderful colors you are using!
I’ve made more progress on the sock and hopefully I can get some pictures up later today. I’ve got about 2 more inches to go before I can start the heel. I’m really liking how the yarn I’m using is striping, so much so, I’m thinking of going back to the LYS to get a second ball and just making knee socks. One ball of the Step is supposed to be enough for two socks.
Jackie: I just ordered the nickel plated circs (size 1) from Knit Picks and I LOVE them! It took a bit of getting used to, since I was used to bamboo, and I dropped stitches first before I got the hang of them. I decided to try those to see if I liked them before getting the Options. I’ve already told my DH that I wanted the Options for Christmas.
Knittynewbie~ :teehee: Now I can’t make up my mind which patterns to buy… I knew it would be snap dragon but after seeing them all up yesterday I was torn by them all…hoping they stick around while I make up my mind…which ones did you get? I love that yarn it’s so pretty…Sock is looking Great!!
dotty~ :woot:YAY!! On the options!!! :woot:…great b-day gift… Love the jaywalkers and how they are looking… I have never done them cause the problems other have getting them to fit…
jberry~ :teehee: that is funny…I’ve never paid attention to the s/h date…
Holly~ You will make it before her b-day!! Be ready though cause once they feel knitted socks on their feet well they don’t care to beg for more :teehee:
Jackie~ I Have the options interchangable set and love it… it’s all I use… I also have the dpns in the nickel…they are very nice esp if the pattern has a lot of decreases… the tips are just right to help make that easier… I have tried the harmony set but don’t own it… and I haven’t tried their dpns so I’m not sure how they are… I keep thinking I’ll order a pair of dpns but haven’t yet :teehee:…
Lieke~ I can’t wait to see the sweater!! Yeah I found out on the pink and black socks I did :teehee:…they were my first stranding like that… they are still snug going over my heel but I force them on…
I hope you guys have a great day and lots of sock knitting… I’m still chugging away on the pirate socks and the cable socks well they haven’t been getting a lot of my attention…:teehee:
It’s chilly here today so I have hand knitted socks on my feet :woot:
Well, I’ve been working on it for I don’t know how long. It just needs a lot of concentration and I don’t get a lot of knitting time and most of the knittingtime I have is in front of the tv, so no stranded knitting. I can’t take the sweater with me on the train, because I use 10 diff. colors for it. So I hope to finish it before it gets really cold, but I’m afraid I won’t.
:hair: Good morning ladies: am new at the sock kal. So i dont know how it works. I have knitted my very first socks and am hooked on socks. They are crazy socks as my sons calls them, but they were my firsts ones. I would love to knitt a pair on dpns. but dont know if i can. :knitting:
I was hopping that i could get some help on a pair of easy to knit knee high for my son that play football. Remenber am new at this. cloud9 thank you ladies.
Dotty, thanks for the link for the Jaywalker socks. I printed it out for when I redo them.
I started on the Diamante http://knitty.com/ISSUEfall06/PATTdiamante.html and was 8 rows into the pattern when I finally conceded that they were too big. When I started them, I knew that 72 st was going to push it. I thought maybe the pattern would take it in a little but it didn’t. So I restarted them and will have to adjust the pattern for 64 st. Has anyone else made these?
I’m using size 7 needles and the 32" cord for my ds hat using the ml and it’s working fine, 40" would probably be easier, because I’m doing the entire hat that way, starting at the brim, but I think it’s ok. I don’t remember the last time I used my dpn b/c I love my ml so much and with the 32" cable from kp and all the different sizes I haven’t had to worry about the dpn. btw my son has a big head-20" for a 3 year old, I call him my fat head. Love the looks of the jaywalkers.
welcome Love2knit! no rules, just knit socks and talk about 'em, that’s pretty much the extent of this kal-never ending because socks are addicting.
I know what ya mean…I had a hard time deciding too, so I ended up with Snapdragon and the Garden Path Toe Ups…I know the Hearts for Heidi is really popular too…she must of made a huge amount this time…ha! Thanks on the sock
