Any mem knitters out there

This just of an interest as this is mainly for women (well what I know of) who can knit.

Is there any men that knits on here.

I know many years ego in the 17th and 18th centry fisher men did knit their own socks back then.

If it’s male knitters you’re looking for, yes, we have a couple of very active male knitters on this board, plus a few who aren’t as active. (I was curious what a “mem” knitter was, so clicked on it, but if you don’t get much response, that’s probably why!)

Once upon a time, things like weaving and knitting were considered the province of men as well as women – in some places, women weren’t supposed to weave, as it was considered in many circles to be too physically strenuous for women.

I was also wondering what a “mem” knitter was. Then when the mouseover said it was mainly of interest to women I had to know the secret.
Come to find out the secret was me, what a let down.

sorry about that misspelled the men lol.

So there are men out there. It’s nice to know men can knit as well. What dose your partners think about you knitting?

I’m just curious cos at this day and age I’ve never known them to knit.

:) I thought that Motherpink was asking about grandmothers!
That is what I called my grandmother “Mem” short for memere. We don’t have the accent for over the e’s .
Yes we do have a lot of men on here that knit, don’t know what there wives or girlfriends think about it.

I think it is great that men knit!! I tried to tell my sons that it is a stress reliever and if a football players can do needlepoint and why can’t they knit! Besides there is a video floating around which a newscaster did about knitting being a stress reliever. Members, I believe we could have told her that a long time ago!!!:woohoo:

Even a couple of years ago the men celebs where at it. I don’t know if they are still doing it:knitting:

Well it comes to shows that men are as good as us women doing the:knitting:

I’m a man who knits, and my dear wife and four children appreciate my knitting (mostly). LOL

You don’t have to go back that far! Many solders in WW 1 and 2 knit their own socks, gloves, mittens, skull caps, balaclavas, scarves, dickies etc.

Ahem! As good as? Well I admit to still being in the learning stages for knitting but I have managed two-handed Fair Isle as well as knitting back (knitting left handed instead of turning the work).

But I bet I can beat you at crochet! In that I can look at a finished piece and re-create a written pattern, repair holes, spot pattern errors, give adjustments for sizing… Well I do claim to be a Master of Crochet in my signature.

Knitting and crochet are no different that cooking or tailoring, or painting, or computer programming. Gender had no bearing on a persons ability to create with one’s hands.

Oh, I’m sorry perhaps you didn’t mean that as a challenge. (no offense taken and I hope I haven’t caused any).

I’m a man and I knit! Really well I might add. I’m a decent crocheter also. My wife knits as well and she just loves the fact that we have a hobby to share! She’ll even admit that I’m much better at it than her. It’s definitely quality time together. My kids think it’s great as well.

This has opened my eyes about you men YOU ARE AS GOOD AS US OR EVEN BETTER lol.

Jack if I have any problems I’ll come to you lol

I haven’t crochet for ages. The item I had done was a cardie and I was for ever wearing it.

I was talking to a freind of mine at work today about men knitters and she said they are better than us women and I do believe her.

Now she has asked me to knit an item for her granddaughter as she can’t knit herself.

I can think of quite a few men here in KH! And who cares if they are good or better than women at knitting/crocheting…the point is they ARE knitting and crocheting!

Sure, there are a lot of us here. I’ve been knitting for close to four years and knit every day.

Oh, my! Did I start a :guyknitting: M vs F :x: smack-down about knitting and crochet ability?
:roflhard:

Someone should make the smiles bigger!

I think greater skill in visual thinking or spacial reasoning is an advantage for knitting, crocheting, and being a mechanic.

Jan, that “And who cares if they are good or better than women at knitting/crocheting” sounds a bit like sour grapes…

Oh, and a bit of arrogance confidence helps too!

I both knit and crochet. I began with crocheting and moved over to knitting in November. I have several FO’s.
As to what my wife and family think. My wife loves it! She picks out patterns and I knit them…
Both my boys take it in stride because we’ve never made a big deal of it. They see dad knitting or crocheting and it’s normal.
They also love snuggling under the afghans I crocheted for them in the winter cold.

A little off topic, but I don’t know anyone, male or female, in REAL LIFE who knits! It’s frustrating because when I need help, I have to come here, and sometimes it’s hard to describe a problem online and get the help you need. I would love to know anyone IRL who knits.

I do, however, know a man who cross stitches. He does amazing work!

Google it, you might find some knit clubs near you.

I don’t know anyone who actively knits. A lot of crocheters who know how to knit but don’t.

My great niece seems to like what I showed her so she’ll probably learn.

I’m male, I knit and I wear kilts and have been know to knit kilted in public.

No, mem don’t knit. Men do. Real men anyway.

Come to think of it…I don’t know too many ppl in person that knit either…I work in a store with yarn, and therefore all my co-workers knit, but out side of that…maybe one or two…
