Anxious

I’ve been working on a complicated sweater pattern in the round (bobbles, 3 different kinds of cables, Kb, etc) and now the directions call for me to place the front of the sweater on holders and work the back on straight needles. How do I do this? I will also eventually work the front of the sweater on straight needles (if I can figure out how to transfer the pattern to straight needles. Thanks you for any help.

Just put the needles tip to tip and slide front sts onto the other needle, or thread some other yarn through them. Then take another yarn end and begin working on the back stitches, leaving a tail to weave in later.

You will have to reverse the pattern for the back, though, when you start working back and forth.

Thank you for your responses. I really want to know how to knit this complicated pattern that I started on the round with a circular needle to knitting with straight needles that require knitting back and forth.

So far you’ve been knitting from right to left (if you’re using a chart.)

You’ll need to work from left to right for the wrong side rows.

If you have places where you had to knit on the right side, you’ll be purling on the wrong side, and vice-versa.

Thanks again. Your help solved my problem. I’m working with hand dyed local wool and with a pattern designed by the owner of the wool shop. I am an experienced knitter but this pattern is ridiculously difficult and not entirely accurate – every once in a while there is a missing stitch or two and purls when there should be knits and front cables when there should be back cables! But, I’m sort of enjoying the challenge, I think.

At least at this point you’re familiar enough with the pattern to see if you made a mistake. Hang in there!
