I’m doing just the band part of Knitty’s Coronet just as an ear cover. I’m using Lion Brand Kool Wool I picked up cheap at Hobby Lobby since it is discontinued. It’s my first cable project, and it’s not too bad!

There is a really cute cabled/bobbled headband in the winter issue of Interweave Knits if you want to do another one of these with a slightly different design.
