Hi everyone, any suggestions on how to “downsize” a headband? I don’t know what the heck I’m doing (even used dpn’s for this one:knitting: )but again, it will probably be a very nice “tube” top for a 5 year old!!! Can’t scrap (or shrink) this one (x-mas gift) I only need it about 1.5" smaller…Any thoughts out there? Thanks alot Cheley
Another "toooo big" finished piece
smaller in length or width?
Have you tried some sort of seaming to fix it? Kind of like taking a tuck? Or maybe adding a bit of elastic to the bottom side?
length!!! cheley
Yea, thought about a “tuck”, but wouldn’t that look a little wonky???
Probably a little. The elastic might work a bit better.
I have made many too big hat projects. Found that I was finishing the size correctly, but that the finished size was 21", and the hat did not need to stretch to fit since it already was 21 inches. I now make hats the final size that I need less 1 or 2" (5-10 st depending on gauge) to give the correct amount of stretch/tightness. You can also make the first 2-3 inches one or two needles smaller on the rib which which also help. Another idea…
Felting … very nice results on TOO big hats if you are using animal fabric and it is really TOO BIG. (22" down to 18" easily), but felted is a very warm hat. You can adjust the final size by felting more or less.

I would cut (yes cut) the band to fit then sew it back together. Here is how to do it on a sweater but can do the same for headband.Be brave you can do it!!!
That was my first “impulse” but I didn’t want a “funky” seam going on:aww: “where” is “how to do it”? do you mean steeking? please respond…Thanks
I was going to say to steek it too…
