How do you join in the round for this pattern which requires u to knit a section flat before joining in the round
It’s not unusual for top down sweaters or dresses to begin with a section at the back (or front) which is knit flat then perhaps extended and joined in the round. This dress has an opening at the back for a button and buttonhole so that section would be knit flat then joined in the round at the base of the opening.
Can you give us a couple of rows of the flat section before the join in the round? Don’t give us a large portion of the pattern due to designer copyright please.
See the last photo in this project which shows the neck portion.
I would think it would be just like joining in the round from a cast-on, except you have more fabric below your needles. When you finish the last flat row, bring the other edge around and keep knitting. Here’s the pic of the yoke that @salmonmac mentioned, done using Magic Loop.

The instructions are as follows
“Join to work in the round from the RS, while knitting together the first and last stitch of the row and placing a marker for the beginning of the round”
If I were to have to join from the RS then my working yarn before joining will be on the left hand needle , and not on the right hand needle which is necessary for all the techniques I know for joining in the round “
You should be knitting to the end of a RS knit row. Having completed the RS row, the yarn strand will be coming off the right hand needle. You’ll then be ready to join in the round by a k2tog proceeding around on the RS.
Thank you so much!!
It’s an adorable dress and a very pretty stitch pattern. Petite Knits has also used the pattern in an adult sweater and tee.
Have an enjoyable knit with the rest of the dress!
