Thanks for asking! We are working on an Android version of the KnittingHelp video reference app. However, we have run into some roadblocks with handling the video across the different android devices and versions. So the project is taking longer than we anticipated as we figure out ways to work through the roadblocks. I don’t have a timeline yet, but if you want to stay up to date with the progress and be notified of the release, the easiest way would be to follow our facebook page or twitter account.

I know there will be some people asking about Blackberry, Windows Phone, Kindle, etc. I’m afraid, at the moment, we don’t have any plans for an app for those platforms. Sorry.

Just curious if the Android version has been released and I missed it. I haven’t seen it on the Facebook page, but I see this thread is from 2011 and I just liked the Knitting Help page a few months ago. Thanks for any update you can provide :slight_smile:

The app is getting the finishing touches applied and we are hoping to release it this Fall. It has been a long and perilous road to get the app finished and taken a lot longer than we expected. We will certainly announce it here, as well as on our Facebook and Twitter pages.

Good reasons to implement Android app on KH!

Just curious about the ETA of the Android version of the app. There is, by no means, any rush, and I am really grateful that you’ve decided to include the Android community at all. Just wondering is all.

Artchic, you’re right. Including Android is great. My next computer will probably be an Android version. Macs cost too much, MS isn’t for me, and Linux is great for someone more adept than I, though mostly I’m very pleased with it. I do like my Android devices!

Maybe computer isn’t techie-nally correct usage here. My DS was telling me about an Android notebook or netbook that someone he knows has and he said it would basically do anything my laptop does and probably more. With a price in the vicinity of $200, or so I was told, it wouldn’t be much more than I just paid for my new Android phone, but it was $100 off so I got it for $149.

Chromebooks I found these online. I think Android is in a position to really move into the computer market and put a dent in the big brands’ share. Maybe. Maybe not. My new phone is too smart for me. I finally can reliably answer a phone call on it. :woot:

I’ll take a stab at this question. There are so many computing choices for us these days, it is becoming confusing, I agree!

Tablets are available in Android (many brands), Apple (ipad), Microsoft Windows (the Surface), and the Amazon Kindle Fire tablet which has its own unique OS (I think it’s called Silk, and I’ve read it’s an Android based OS, but adjusted for Amazon)

A “NetBook” is technically an itty bitty laptop PC. It doesn’t have an Android OS. It’s usually a lightweight Windows OS (Operating System). The NetBook popularity has sorta gone by the wayside with the introduction of Tablets, therefore you can get bargains on NetBooks.

Chromebook isn’t a Tablet. I don’t think it’s got Touchscreen capability like The Surface. It seems to be a teeny laptop that uses the Chrome OS.

I dunno…I am now a confirmed Mac user, because they just don’t seem to get viruses they way PCs do. After upgrading several PCs after they got too messed up to de-frag anymore, we got a used MacBook on Ubid. I think we ended up paying about $300. That was 2 summers ago, and the thing is as good as the day we got it, and it has even been dropped once! I would never pay the price of a new Apple computer, but for what I do; check email, this site, Ravelry and typing a few papers, this MacBook has been a virus-free little workhorse.

I must add that I detest my iPhone, it seems to have a mind of its own, but my daughter looked at it and tried a few things. Her diagnosis: “Your phone is messed up,” so I think I got a lemon. It’s still under warranty, so I think I’ll take it back.

My laptop is an old Windows machine raised from the dead with Linux Mint. At some point things will wear out and it will be cheaper to get something else rather than fix this one. This cost about $30 because it needed a new power supply cord. My Android phone’s hotspot is what brings me here. :thumbsup: And I’m watching a hulu show while working ribbing on socks.

“Your phone is messed up,” I think is geek-speak for it ain’t workin’ right. :teehee: Most likely an accurate diagnosis.

We looked at Google Chromebook for our son, but settled for another used MacBook. The Chromebook seemed nice, but evidently your data isn’t stored in a harddrive, but in a cloud. Once they start talking about clouds, I’m feeling as if my brain is cloudy, and we have had such good luck w/ the used Macs.

The cloud is just a “hard drive” on the internet. It makes it so that you can access your documents, pictures, and other things on multiple devices.

For instance, say you had some knitting patterns that you wanted to use and found them while on your chrome book. You can then save them to the cloud, ie your “hard drive” on the internet as a document, or series of documents, what have you.

However, for some reason, when you wanted to access the patterns, you didn’t have access to said chrome book. You can whip out your handy dandy smart phone and access the place on the internet, known as the “cloud”, and thus, have access to those patterns.

The Cloud is also really quite convenient for those of us who have Kindle Fires and have bought a lot of TV shows and movies to watch on it, but don’t have enough space on the Kindle Fire’s hard drive to store them all. As long as you have access to the web, you can have access to as many movies and TV shows etc, that you can afford space for on the Cloud.

If you aren’t techno savvy, or born later than the 80’s such concepts would probably not be programmed into your very being, and thus, seem unnatural to use. My mother is often asking me to help her send pictures via text message, or to access some other function (or functions) on her phone for her, as she has noticeable difficulty with learning how to use it. She calls herself “technically challenged”. She can’t even figure out how to access her Google account to download apps onto her phone via Google Play. I probably should help her with that someday.

I, on the other hand, can maneuver around my smart phone like its second nature, and seeing that it’s the same model as hers (with different cases to help distinguish them apart), it helps me to help her when she needs it.

Every pdf and Word Doc pattern I own is in my Google Drive!

And yes, it’s so convenient that I don’t have to clog my smartphone and tablet SD card storage! Whatever device I use to upload the pattern to Google Drive, it’s immediately accessible on ant of my devices and my PC and laptop. Any computing device that has Google Drive installed. It’s amazing.

I don’t send photos or financial docs to Google Drive. Photos hog the free space that Google allows. So I only use my Google Drive to stow my patterns.

I loved my old iPhone and can’t wait for the new one to arrive! I have an old Dell PC with good virus software so no issues there. I use my iPad more often than it most of the time and it and the iPhone are backed up to iTunes and the cloud.

I finally have a decent PC, after years of HP turtles. Now, I am flying with an Asus pc that is perfect for me. And I use a Nook HD+ as my tablet. It’s Android, so I’m looking forward to trying out the KH app. :slight_smile: :woohoo:
