Andean silk for tubey sweater - Pooling?

“The Andean Silk Twist mouline yarns have a tendency to mimic hand-dyes. To prevent pooling, alternate yarn from different balls every 2 or 3 rows.”

Do people REALLY do this? are you adding in new balls that often or carrying yarn thru rows? I like the pricepoint of this yarn but am nervous about POOLING

Thanks!!!

That’s for the Twist colored yarns, the ones with more than one color in them. If you’re using solid colors, you will not have that problem.
If you are using the multicolored ones, you could carry your changes up the side since it’s a sweater, so the strands would be hidden on the inside of the tube. Would you have to change every two rows? Maybe not. The only way to really know is to try it.

Different sizes or using different size needles means you’ll have a different number of stitches and that can be a large factor in whether a yarn pools or not. You’d have to try it out different ways to see what it does. It would depend some on the pattern too.

Can someone please explain what “pooling” is?

Pooling is when there is different colors in yarns and sometimes when you knit with one ball some of the color will tend to pool together in like a sploch/spot. I’m not sure if I explained that right. There isn’t any rhyme or reason to it but like Cate said - it only happens in the twist colors of AS not the solids.

Thanks Jeep girl. I’ve had that happen; I just didn’t know it had a name.
Do you actually switch balls, though?

Yep, you’d switch the balls as you are knitting - that way you avoid having the pool of color.
