Amy has a BABY BLOG up. Come visit!

25 messed with my head – that whole quarter of a century thing. 30 wasn’t hard at all, nor was 40. Not sure how 50 will be.

Love your blog Amy! I just love reading about everyone’s lives. I’m such a nosey-parker!

Congrats on the dishwasher!

Treated is newish… I think it means “so there” (or some other lame retort)

Amy, I thought we could change your home page to be a bit more cool, like THIS. What do you think? :rofling: *** EDIT as of 9:05 central time… I totally didn’t realize that this had the F word on it  Otherwise I wouldn’t have posted it. Don’t look if you don’t like the F word   ***

Hilde, WHERE do you FIND this stuff???
OMGGGGGG!

 :rofling:  :rofling:  :rofling:

Hilde- that is GREAT!! If it were 20 years ago it would be more like this!

Amy is gonna KILL you. But, oh man is it funnnny.

well it’s been 3 days… I hope she’s not still mad :verysad:

it really WAS an accident :help:

Don’t think she’s mad, just busy, darlin!

OMG Hildie! That is toooooo funny! :rofling: Denise is right, I’ve been busy. What a riot! I remember playing with such translation software once. I like the Jive version of my site even better: Here
and don’t forget to check out the Sweedish Chef version, and the Red Neck version! :rofling:

Thanks Benniesma & Danielle, I  you two back!

LOL, Rennagayle, I didn’t know that was Mrs. Cleaver! Now I have to watch it again, that makes it twice as funny. I didn’t mean to refer to her as super old; I just thought it added to the effect to call her old and homely; but Beaver Cleaver’s Mom is an even better effect! LOL

Well I’m finally over the sinus infection I had. Oops, did I mention I had a sinus infection? Too out of it :? to remember to post such a thing to my blog! Man I’ve never had actual “sinus pressure” like that before; never knew what people were talking about when they said sinus pressure. Very different from your average stuffed up nose. Totally knocked me out for a few days there! Still on the tail end of it, but most of it’s over, thank goodness.

The kitchen shopping craze continues…
Had to get new dishes because we didn’t have enough to fill the dishwasher! (Oh, poor me, had to go buy new dishes. Shopping is such a chore. :eyebrow:) I got thesedishes from Target, and LOVE them. It’s hard to see in the little picture, but the glaze around the edges has this wonderful organic variation; it reads as caramel colored overall, but if you look closer, there’s streakes of light green and such beautiful separation. Each dish is different, and I got a few that were a boring plain beige without this variation, but most of them are gorgeous. The set reminds me of hand made pottery, which is why I had to get it. They also have some other nice stoneware at Target, for even cheaper. Check out their Sageset, which I almost got. This set was fun, too, and I caught myself thinking, “Couldn’t we use a set with summer colors too?” :shifty: This is when I give Sheldon my bank and credit cards and tell him he’d better lock them in a safe for a week or two until I’ve re-gained my senses.

Check it out!! An artist has painted a portrait of my avatar!

Recognize this picture?!

This is a neat story. I’m a member of an online forum for artists, called WetCanvas.com … I haven’t posted there in ages, but an artist there came across my avatar (the picture I use with my posts).

She saw my avatar, this tiny little picture,

and emailed me saying she wanted to paint a portrait of it! Talk about random! I’d never talked to her before or anything, she just saw the picture and really wanted to paint it! Cool, huh?! :happydance: So I sent her the full-sized version, which was still blurry and small, and she created that painting from it!

She says it’s not quite done, but I had to share the picture anyway, I couldn’t wait. She’ll be entering it into a juried contest, but after that she said I could probably just have it! I told her I’d like to pay her for it. (She definitely deserves something for her incredible work!) I just love it. I thought you all might appreciate it.

The original picture, by the way, was from our wedding, taken moments after saying “I do.” I’ve always loved my avatar picture, because it shows me in such a special, happy moment, and I think my happiness shows, even though it’s such a tiny picture. I like to think that the artist picked up on the special happy vibe of it, and that’s what made her want to paint it. In any case, it’s a very special moment to me, so I couldn’t be more pleased to have a portrait done from it! I think she really captured my joy. I just love it!

Amy

WHAT a WONDERFUL gift! That would make me BAWL!!! It’s LOVELY, as it your avatar, Amy…you are right…you FEEL your joy looking at that pic.

I know how you must feel looking at that painting. The President of the organization for which I work is an artist, as most older British ladies are (I find…). She knits, quilts, paints, writes…she is AMAZING. I call her my Fairy Godmother.

Anyway, she snuck a picture of my dog, Katie, and painted her portrait. I was BLOWN AWAY at receiving such a gift! Well, as fate would have it, Katie went into acute kidney failure and we had to make the kind but HORRIBLE decision to euthanize her just before the following Christmas. I am SO happy to have that portrait, especially now.

I know your story is SO much happier than mine…didnt mean to be a bummer. But, a gift THAT special, well…you know.

Im SO glad you are feeling better! I have developed sinus CRUD in the last year or so…I think it comes with getting OLD(er). I hope that’s NOT the case with you!

Wow, that painting is beautiful! You really do look happy in that photo (and the painting).

sheesh way to kill the mood KK!

Wow! That picture is amazing, Amy. She really did capture your “joy”. I always thought you looked like a doll, but in the painting, maybe it’s the hair, clothes, I don’t know, but you look like some Victorian lady of old who ‘shed’ her Victorian pose for a good hearty laugh.

Amy~

My favourite number on your 100 list is 70. It reminds me of a few of my own stories. Glad you could share it

Thanks everyone! Rennagayle, that’s a nice compliment!

Beldie, I had to look it up:
" 70) I once shaved off all of my hair. I don’t know what I was thinking."

Ahhh yes. It was around the same time I was dressing in baggy clothes and doing everything possible to not be an attractive blonde. :?? Man, the instinct to rebel is a bizarre thing.

Speaking of hair…
My hair has been giving me SUCH grief the last few years. It used to be totally manageable and not frizzy, and I could dye it or whatever I wanted, and it was strong hair that could take it. NOW, I haven’t died it in years, and it’s totally dry, breaks like you wouldn’t believe, and is completely unmanageable. I’ll shower in the am and let it dry naturally so the curls are uniform and manageable; and then within about 2 hours, my hair is a frizzy mess again. It didn’t used to do that! And it’s not the hair products I’m using, believe me I’ve tried all of them!

I’ve been thinking I must have some kind of nutritional deficiency, that’s causing my hair to be so dry and weak; and also my nails to be more fragile than they used to be.

I’ve been doing some research, and there are lots of possible deficiencies that it could be, I’m realizing… Calcium, iron, B-vitamins. Even protein, which is kind of making me go “Duh…I’m a vegetarian, and I eat fish, tofu and beans, but only when I’m in the mood, which isn’t all that often…” I guess I should be paying more attention to this stuff!!

 Feeling pretty stupid here. Am I the only one who totally neglects their body’s obvious nutritional needs? I’ve been thinking “Oh, I eat my veggies; I’m healthy.” I NEVER think, “Am I getting enough calcium, and iron, and Protein, other essentials?..” I’m starting to wonder if it’s related to other health problems I’ve had, and if it might be a rather serious deficiency! :help: I’m going to consult with either a nutritionist or possibly a naturopath (I’ve heard they can diagnose deficiencies really well) ASAP. …In the mean time, I’ve been dipping into DH’s protein powder, and taking that multi-vit I have but never take…

Amy

I definitely fit into that category! I just bought a box of HoHo’s at the market and they are already almost half gone!

I can hear your jaw drop from here!

This is only a theory, as I haven’t put it into practice yet, but I am thinking that it would be a good idea to make up my own food guide by categorizing my “food groups” into “vitamin groups”. It’s a daunting task though, because of all of the research behind it. There are vitamins that complement each other and some you have to have before others etc.

On the note of taking a multi vitamin, I wouldn’t rely on it. I read that often times a woman’s body does not process it thoroughly such that there is still a chunk of the vitamin that will pass through her bowel system.

Besides Amy, you are a person who will find a way to eat such that you do not need vitamins. You just come across that way. We’ll have to swap recipes or something

LOL Benniesma, I think it’s fine to indulge. When I was I kid, I once ate a whole box of (8!) large chocolate covered Hostess donuts for breakfast. I didn’t even get a stomach ache! :?? It’s amazing how hearty kids can be. Beldie, definitely I need to eat more rounded meals too, not just a vitamin. Definitely!

Okay, I saw a naturopathic doctor yesterday! She was AWESOME!!

She said that if I supplement my diet with Omega 3 & 6's, that should really help my hair. She said it will take months to be noticable, but it should really help, and Omega's are very important all around and very important in the diet because we can't produce them ourselves.

She also said I might have a Cortisol (hormone) deficiency, which we're going to test for. She said it would explain all of my other misc. health issues. I'm psyched to at least test for this; she says mainstream doctors never test for this, and it's an important hormone. (The test is called an ASI test, and there's some screening info [here](http://www.diagnostechs.com/body_text/tests/asi/asi_test_print.htm), if you're curious. It seems like Cortisol can affect a lot of things, even ability to focus, ability to sleep, libido, dry skin, and more. I can't believe most doctors don't test for this!)

She gave me some good all-around nutritional advice:
~Eat balanced meals, not just carbs here, and protein there.
~Take a multi vit & calcium supplement
~Take 1-3 tbs./day omega oils (uncooked; great in homemade salad dressings, or even mixed into yogurt, I tried it and you don't notice it!)
~Eat seaweed, because it's very high in healthy minerals. (She even gave me a sample of "spicy nori strips," snack-sized packets of yummy spicy seaweed. I'll have to get some of these! Great way to get the benefits of seaweed.)
~Eat pigment-rich foods, of different colors

I have a new juicer than can juice veggies including greens, and I asked her for recommendations for foods to juice. She gave me some great suggestions. It was a great visit! And she told me to call her if I had more Q's, which was so helpful! And she was affordable!

Amy

Amy I know you have the Boye needles, What do you do when a pattern calls for a 16" needle? Do I really have to go by another circ for hats? Thanks ~Brooke
