I´ve just started this pullover:
And am wondering if I´m understanding the instructions right. I´m supposed to do the rib until it measures the required cm, then I count that as the 3rd row of the pattern, increase by one stitch and then continue on in the pattern?
Karen
Pattern: See charts. The pattern is seen from the right side. Pattern 1 starts on the 4th row of the chart – note that on the 3rd row of the chart (the row before you begin Pattern 1) you inc 1 st. This inc is only in the last st at the end of the row, it is not repeated across the row! The chart does not show the entire width of the Pattern – it shows only the last 19 sts above the rib. As you get to the top of the chart, you will continue the pattern over the remaining rib sts until all of the sts are knit in stockinette st.
This paragraph of your instuctions is very important to remember. But it seems to say that on the chart you do the increase on row 3 of the chart, but it looks like to me that the “+” that means increase is shown on the fourth row of the pattern according to chart M.1. But it makes better sense for it to be on row 3 which will be a right side row, so that the k2 in one stitch falls on a right side row at the end of the row. So what I’d count as the row shown on the chart as the increase row (the one with the + sign) would be a right side row. Then do one WS row with no changes and then on the next RS row when you have 19 stitches left do the
put 2 sts on cable needle in back of work, K 3, P 2 tog from cable needle, then 2 yo. On the next row let one yo drop and P the other yo
.
So, in short, I think you understand it about right.
Don’t forget to change your needle to the larger one, and don’t forget your edge stitches.
Thanks for the help!
I think what I was more confused about was whether I do the 6 cm. in rib, and then when I do the increase, count that as row 3 of the pattern, as 3 rows of the rib don`t equal the 6 cm.
I´m finding that having to write the question is about as good a solution finder as reading out loud - so many times when I don`t understand something, I read the directions out loud and Voila!
What ever works I guess!
Thanks again!
Karen
Yeah, work 6 cm in ribbing and then begin the next part.
Sometimes even when I read very carefully I still misread. I have a tendency to “see” what I think I ought to see, and not really read what is actually written there.
