Alteration to the top of this hat pattern

I’m currently in the process of making this hat: http://throughtheloops.typepad.com/Mirelle.pdf

I’ve come to the conclusion that I really don’t like the top. I’m not going to go crazy if no one can assist me, but I would like to see if anyone can suggest another top (maybe like a cone-tip, like those Christmas hats or something else). Also, can you work off of this pattern with your suggestion as I am not skilled enough yet to figure it out on my own.

It’s the purl rows that give it that edge on top. If you skip that part and follow the decrease instructions after that, you should get a more normal looking hat.

I’m about to commence with the crown section

“switch to color C and purl”

can I just knit this row so that I still get the same amount of rows?

[continuing this until “With color B knit”]

Yes, just knit the purl rows and you won’t get that ridge.
