Alpine Toque Hat

The above hat calls for Super Bulky Merino wool such as (We are Knitters the wool, Sugarbush Chill or Malabrigo Rasta), knit with 10 mm needles. I cannot get the wool here nor get 10 mm circular needles. The wool would have to be bought in the states. I could get the needles from Amazon. I am, however pressed for time. Also wool has to be Dark Jade or Dark Teal.
1j What wool would be a good substitute?
2) what would it look like if I knit it with Paton’s Super Bulky and
number 6mm needles?
3) I was wondering how it would look done in Paton’s Super Bulky with 6 mm needles.
Any suggestions with respect to wool and needles would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

Maybe this hat?

Yarnsub.com can give you reasonable substitutes.

Lion Brand Thick and Quick comes in a range of colors.
This would be quite tight on 6mm needles with super bulky yarn. You’d have to a adjust stitch number and use a thinner yarn. It would be better to look for a similar pattern for the 6mm needles.

You could consider using two strands of an aran weight yarn which would make approximately a super bulky. There are then many more yarn choices.

Do you have access to a hardware store “oversized” needles can be made from dowel, one dowel cut in half sharpened and sanded I have even waxed them a little. Assuming straight needles would do? Also I have large cheap circular needles bought at Walmart.
