Alpaca yarn untwisting

So my sister gave me a shawl she’d knitted with 2 ply Alpaca yarn and I’m unraveling it to knit a sweater. What I’m finding is there’s parts of the yarn that’s untwisted. Is there a way to fix that, without a spindle?

It might help relax the strands and restore more even twist to wind the yarn into a hank, wet and dry it.
