Alpaca Silk Scarf

Today, I bought 3 skeins of Debbie Bliss Alpaca Silk DK…so SOFT. :inlove:

I’m wanting to make a scarf so I can feel that yarn all the time when the weather is chilly.

Do you guys think the Irish Hiking Scarf pattern would work well with this yarn? http://www.helloyarn.com/irishhikingcarf.htm

Well, since it’s DK weight it’ll be a little thinner than the scarf made in worsted weight like the pattern calls for. Otherwise I think it would be fine! Though I’m not sure how many yards 3 balls is–I assume that would be enough for a scarf.

If I were to knit that scarf in DK weight, I would knit it in the round, repeating the pattern front and back. Make it double-sided. I did that with worsted wt yarn and it was a bit too thick for my liking, but with DK wt, it should be PERFECT!

Thanks, my friends! I’ll let you know how things go. I know one thing - I’ll enjoy knitting just to FEEL that yarn during the process…no matter how it turns out. Knitter’s Heaven.

Sometimes that’s the best part!!

I just finished a project with Alpaca Silk – you will LOVE knitting with it. It is so yummy, I never wanted to put it down!! :inlove:

Mer and Kelly K,

You were right! The Alpaca Silk yarn is not thick enough for that pattern. I’m thinking about switching to a pattern I saw on the Garnstudio Drops Design website that uses alpaca yarn instead.

I’m going to use a single strand instead of doubling, since the pattern calls for a finer gauge yarn. I think it will turn out nice! The photo below came from the website for the pattern.

I’ve decided to use a chunky yarn instead for the Irish Hiking Scarf. It is looking beautiful so far!
